Remote Coding: How It Technically Works
What actually happens during remote coding, what you need, and where the limits are.
The Principle
With remote coding, the software doesn't sit in your vehicle — it runs on our computer, and we access your vehicle through your laptop. Your laptop is just the bridge: it maintains the connection to the OBD interface and gives us remote access to your screen.
Technically, this is identical to on-site coding. The same manufacturer software, the same data sets, the same backup. The only difference is the distance between the technician and the car.
What You Need
- A compatible OBD interface — depending on the brand: ENET cable, VCDS dongle, or similar
- A Windows laptop with a free USB or network port
- A stable internet connection — ideally wired or strong Wi-Fi near the vehicle
- TeamViewer or AnyDesk — installation takes two minutes
- A battery charger on the vehicle or the engine running
If you don't have the interface, let us know beforehand — we'll recommend the right model for your vehicle or lend you one.
Session Process
- Schedule an appointment via WhatsApp, including your time zone
- Connect the interface and laptop to the vehicle and launch TeamViewer
- We read all control units and back up the original state
- The actual coding — you see every step live on your screen
- Verification, clear fault codes, quick function test
A single activation takes about 20 to 45 minutes, a package one to two hours.
Where the Limits Are
Remote access covers a lot, but not everything. Not possible are jobs that require a test drive, any physical work on the vehicle, or removal of a control unit.
- Chip tuning on locked control units — the module needs to be removed
- Anything requiring a visual inspection of the vehicle
- Jobs where the connection isn't stable enough — an interruption during programming is risky
What happens if the connection drops?
For pure coding, a disconnection is not critical: the process stops, the last valid state remains, and we start over. That's why we only perform programming — unlike coding — over a proven stable remote connection.
