Coding apps or a specialist: what each one can do

We get this question almost daily. And the honest answer is: for some things you do not need us. We would still rather tell you the truth than sell you something you can do yourself.

What apps do well

Smartphone apps with a Bluetooth or Wi-Fi adapter cover the common comfort functions: comfort indicators, mirror folding, seatbelt chime, start-up animation. The interface is deliberately simple, the choice pre-filtered and largely safe.

If that is exactly what you want and you enjoy doing it yourself — do it yourself. It costs less once than an appointment with us.

Where apps stop

• Control units the app does not include
• Changes to the vehicle order rather than single parameters
• Firmware updates of control units
• Retrofits where a module has to be adapted first
• Cars whose model range is not supported yet
• Fault finding when something stops working after a coding session

The real difference

Manufacturer software does not work from a pre-filtered list but directly with the vehicle's data model. That means more possibilities — and more responsibility. A wrongly set value can disable functions that worked before.

Our recommendation

Start with an app if you are curious. Come to us when you hit a limit, when firmware is involved, or when something has gone wrong. We repair other people's coding too — without lecturing anyone.
